Charlie has written for many national newspapers and magazines, including the New Statesman, Independent, and Observer. She’s a literary critic, commentator and arts journalist and former BBC television and radio news correspondent. She presented many of BBC Radio 4’s flagship news and current affairs programmes, including PM, The World at One, The World This Weekend, and The World Tonight, as well as the literary programme Open Book. She made a series of political documentaries for BBC2 and presented Breakfast News on BBC1.

She has been a writer and essayist for Cereal magazine since its launch in 2012. Her essay about whether language constitutes design is in the September 2019 issue of Designo magazine. Her blog about art, literature and food is called Eggs on the Roof.
